There comes a time in every young man’s life when he must ask himself, is the juice worth the squeeze?

For four of us, that time is now. Over the past two years four of us close friends have been discussing a journey of epic proportions. Our journey will incorporate adventure, danger, education, culture, and the promotion of GREEN Living. We’ll start the trip in Newport Beach, California and end in Chile after more than six months of travel.

While most would fly down south and backpack in the mountains or on the coast, we plan to stray from the norm when it comes to transportation. Our plans are to DRIVE the pacific coast in a bio-diesel 4x4 - surfing, learning, building to contribute to the local communities. We are leaving the rat race on ONE LAST STAND to discover “The Real World.”

While watching our friends, relatives and peers jump headfirst into careers, relationships and obligations, we have realized that we are not quite ready for a commitment of this level. Although comforted by girlfriends, high paying jobs, and incredible friends / family, there is still a fire inside us that cannot and will not be snuffed out until we make this trip.

You see, the four of us are all intelligent, hard working young men. We all graduated from college and have been successful athletes, employees, friends and maniacs. We all have big plans for the future, like starting companies, getting married, having children, and generally becoming the “good sons” our mothers and fathers want. However, we share a common thread in the great sweater of life. That thread is adventure, and it sews us into a cohesive group that desires to travel and explore the unknown. We’re all quitting our jobs and jumping head first into something much more exciting than white picket fences and Super Bowl parties. Exploring the many small towns and villages throughout the 40,000 miles we’ll have an adventure that is truly unique and life changing.

This trip is not just about four young men who need to jump into the unknown. It’s about helping others as well. We plan to contribute to local communities by endorsing environmentally friendly concepts from transportation to construction to agriculture. We are in contact with Habitat for Humanity, Surfrider, Un Techo Para Mi Pais, and other philanthropic organizations. Each of the four of us is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about “Green” concepts and practices. Eric Paine works for a development company experimenting with “Green” developments and currently pioneering the first large scale LEED certified residential development in all of Southern California, Bill Boyd’s construction business specializes exclusively in “Green” Construction, Sean Robbins has been working with a team to put on a Green Conference in Los Angeles and Kevin Broderick graduated college with a degree in Sustainable Agriculture and has traveled the world exploring different methods. The four of us also share a common goal of sustaining the world we live in, and we have an opportunity to help preserve it. By sharing knowledge we can make a difference that can benefit everyone.
